Communitea Centre

Our Communitea Centre is open to all as a place to meet, get advice, take part in organised daily activities. We provide access to self-service tea and coffee making facilities. This encourages people to talk, so encouraging peer to peer support via an empathetic chat. Food is provided on a daily basis. This can be hot or cold dependant on what is available, and what people would like. Much of this is service led.

If there is a need for more formal Mental Health support, our staff are available, and have information and contact numbers. They can also signpost users to appropriate help or ring the support line on their behalf.

We provide clerical support, assistance with form completion, helping people deal with correspondence, making and assisting calls to official organisations on their behalf. If someone presents with an urgent situation, we will deal with this and contact relevant services.

The Centre has various rooms available for use by other services and organisations. The Conference room can be hired for meetings, training, activities, interactive activities by us or external providers.  The activities currently on offer cover a very diverse population.

Charity Shop

Our Charity shop was set up to financially support our Centre and Helpline. Also, to support the community by making available items that people may be struggling to afford. We are fortunate that many kind people donate good quality items to us, which we can sell at prices affordable by those that don’t have a lot of disposable income, and who would not otherwise have access to these things. We provide a collection and delivery service for the larger items. We can only accept items in good, clean, saleable condition, and where relevant, with the appropriate fire safety labels.

Anyone who has any items to donate can bring them to our premises, or for larger items, contact us to arrange collection.

Mental Health Support Line (0800 0516171)

This is a free, 24/7 service working in collaboration with Tees Esk & Wear Valley NHS Trust, and takes calls covering the whole of North Yorkshire. This line provides low level intervention and advice, and connections to professional services such as the NHS Crisis Teams. Our staff are trained in Mental Health First Aid, Suicide Awareness, and Safeguarding. We can make contact with and make referrals to other services and organisations such as, GP’s, Talk Therapies, CMHT, and other charities that may provide appropriate help.

People sometimes just need someone to talk to. That is also part of the service, a friendly ear and a chat.

Emergency & Specialist Advice

Emergency and specialist advice and assistance dependant on the presentation of the client. This can include, providing food, and vouchers for the Food Bank and other necessary resources to cover immediate need. The Centre is a safe space to come to, and we can contact emergency services if we feel it is appropriate. We work with other local charities who can also provide urgent assistance.
