There is a lot of evidence that suggests spending time in woodlands has a lot of social benefits. You can benefit both physically and mentally if you spend time in nature. Thought to reduce stress, blood pressure, and anxiety, it’s a wonder spending time in nature isn’t prescribed by the NHS.

Mental Health Benefits

Woodlands are increasingly used to help people who suffer from a range of mental health conditions. Known to reduce blood pressure, lower stress, and reduce anxiety, spending time outdoors can boost your mental health.

There’s a psychological theory surrounding the mental health benefits of being somewhere green. There’s a theory known as “Attention restoration theory”. This theory suggests that spending even just a few minutes outside can help you to overcome mental fatigue. It can also restore concentration and attention, and give you more energy.

Had a stressful day? spend some time outside. A few minutes can make a world of difference. Places such as Brayton Barff, for example, are ideal if you want to spend an hour or so in nature. Reap the mental rewards by breathing in fresh air while you’re surrounded by greenery.

The NHS prescribes physical activity, but it’s yet to prescribe green places. More and more doctors are now realising how beneficial green spaces are. However, not all of their patients are aware of just how much difference the outdoors can make.
