We are a Selby mental health charity that offers low-level early intervention. Our support network is comprised of people from the local community. Some members of our team have lived experiences of mental health. We believe this lived experience makes a huge difference to the support offered.
We understand that the support we offer is needed more than ever before. The pandemic has left many people feeling isolated and lost. These feelings can often result in mental health concerns or exacerbate existing concerns.
We offer mental health support for Selby and the surrounding areas. Why not give us a call? Our phone line is open from 7 pm – 10 pm on weekdays and all day Saturday and Sunday. Call us on (01757) 642 399. If you call before our phone lines are open and we cannot answer, you will be diverted to an NHS Helpline.
Here at The Big Communi-tea, we provide Mental Health First Aid training, Safeguard training, and Suicide Prevention training. In addition to this, we use a peer-to-peer support model. This model ensures that every member of our team and those who ask us for help feel a part of something.
Accessing Services and Organisations
We are here to help people access mental health services and organisations. We can help to bridge the gap between a person’s mental health issues, and them receiving the support they need.
We occasionally work with local charities who ask us to help someone they are concerned about. This ensures the individual gets the support and care they need.
We are proud to offer training to services and organisations that support vulnerable people with mental health needs. Once the training has been completed, the service or organisation is given a “Mental health aware” decal to put on display. The decal also mentions where people can get support if they need it.
We will also ask people who work with support services to provide 3 hours of mental health support each month to those who need it.
Mental Health Stigma
Mental health still has a stigma that needs to be smashed. We want to offer a kind ear and a tea (or coffee) to those who need support or are feeling lonely.
Tea and a chat? We can help with that.
We’re not trying to reinvent the wheel. We’re just trying to support people who live in North Yorkshire.
