Most of us can feel anxious now and again. Anxiety is actually a normal response to perceived threats. In some cases, anxiety can save your life. However, it can be a problem if it impacts your daily life.

Anxiety could be an issue if you:

  • Find it difficult to undertake your usual daily activities
  • Find it quite hard to do some or all of the things you enjoy
  • Feel anxious for long periods of time
  • Have anxiety that can be very strong or quite overwhelming
  • Tend to avoid any situations that could make you feel anxious
  • Have concerns or worries that could be out of proportion

There is help for anxiety in Selby. Your doctor could be the first person that you speak to. He or she might ask you to keep a record of your anxiety. They may also ask you to note down:

  • When the symptoms of anxiety start
  • What might have caused you to feel anxious
  • What you did to make yourself feel less anxious

Talking About Your Feelings

Talking about how you feel to someone you can trust help. Sometimes the mere act of talking can lift a weight off your shoulders.

Get Some Exercise

A bit of exercise every day can help you to feel better. Why not walk around a park or your local area? You don’t have to go on your own, a friend or family member could come with you.

Do Some Breathing Exercises

When you ask for mental health support from your doctor or a therapist, they might recommend that you do some breathing exercises. They could tell you that when you feel anxious to take slow, deep breaths. Do this until you have more control over your breathing. This can help you to feel calmer.
