Recent studies have shown that people who have poor self-control are more likely to be lonely. This is thought to be because poor self control can make someone appear to be less trustworthy. When someone is less trustworthy they might not be welcomed to social events.

Interestingly, those who reported having bad self-control on any particular day were likely to feel lonely on that same day.

Those who are seen as having greater self-control are thought to be more reliable partners, friends, and colleagues. Loneliness is a lot more likely to occur when your actions have social consequences.
