If you are a bit of a perfectionist, you could have unrealistic goals. If you constantly strive to appear perfect all of the time, you could be struggling. Perfectionism can mask emotional vulnerability and a difficult past.

The good news is that there is a way out of your perfectionism, you just need to be patient with yourself.

We offer mental health support for Selby and the surrounding areas. Why not give us a call? Our phone line is open from 7 pm – 10 pm on weekdays and all day Saturday and Sunday.

Call us on (01757) 642 399. If you call before our phone lines are open and we cannot answer, you will be diverted to an NHS Helpline.

Here’s what you can do:

  1. Recognise your problem
  2. Overcome the obstacles that prevent you from changing
  3. Change any unhelpful life rules that you have
  4. Start to process the feelings that are fuelling your perfectionism
  5. Recognise and celebrate any progress that you make

You might also want to reconsider any unhelpful relationships that you have. These relationships could be preventing you from achieving positive change in your life, such as setting boundaries, for example.

It’s worth your while fighting to change things. You are worth the effort and you are worth loving, simply because of who you are, not what you can do.

(Please note, the advice given in this blog is not a substitute for medical advice, it is merely a guide. It might be helpful to speak to your doctor or another mental health professional if you are struggling.)
