Would you like to be more mindful but you often struggle to find the time to meditate? There are some things you can do during your busy day to help you be more mindful.

Our lives are becoming busier and busier. There seems to be a growing demand for our attention and this can cause us to feel anxious, irritable, or depressed.

You might only have a few minutes each day to practice mindfulness. This is ok, there are many benefits of being mindful even just for a few minutes. Here’s how:

Listen to Someone

When someone is talking to you, listen to them with fresh ears. Try to consider what they are attempting to convey. Work out what is special about this person and think about what you could learn from them. When you do this, you are less likely to judge them in a negative way.

Breathing

Try some breathing exercises, even just for a few minutes. Sit up straight and place your feet on the floor. Breathe in and out naturally, paying attention to how it feels. Concentrate on your chest as it falls and rises. If you get distracted don’t worry too much, just turn your thoughts back to this exercise.

Sensing

Start paying attention to all of your senses. When you do, you will start to feel calmer. Do this the next time you eat, think about what the food smells, feels, and tastes like. Chew your food slowly, and take time to enjoy it.

The next time you spend some time outside, pay attention to what you can see, hear, and smell. Breathe deeply and ignore any stressful or negative thoughts you might have.

Practising mindfulness during the mornings and evenings can be beneficial. Just a few moments of calm can make sure you have enough energy for the day while ensuring you’re relaxed enough to sleep in the evenings. Practice mindfulness so that it becomes a habit. Be kind to yourself, and try to enjoy the process. Sooner or later, it will become more natural to you.
