We would all like to be mentally healthy. However, there isn’t much information around to tell us what being mentally healthy is like. It’s interesting to note that being mentally healthy does not mean there is an absence of any mental health illness or condition. When someone is considered to be mentally healthy they are capable of undertaking a variety of functions and activities. These include having:

  • The ability to learn
  • The ability to cope with uncertainty and change
  • The ability to manage, feel, and express both negative and positive emotions
  • The ability to form and maintain good relationships with others

How to Look After Your Mental Well-Being

It is very important that you take care of your mental health and it will help to achieve a lot.

Here are few suggestions for maintaining your mental health:

Discuss how you’re feeling

Talking about how you’re feeling is one of the most beneficial things you can do. This will make you feel happier and talking allows you to express your feelings.

There is absolutely no shame in expressing your feelings to anyone. Find someone you can confide in and speak to them. You can chat with someone online if you don’t want to talk to someone face-to-face.

There are several mental health forums online that may help.

Maintain a healthy diet

We’re all aware that eating a healthy diet is important. A healthy diet will help your body and brain to function properly. This is because a healthy diet ensures that the brain and body get the nutrients they need.

Enjoy Yourself

Do something you enjoy. When you spend some time doing the things you enjoy, you are much less likely to feel anxious or stressed.

Ask for Help

If you start to find life hard or you become overwhelmed, please ask for help. You are not alone, there is always someone willing to help you. Talk to a friend, a family member, your doctor, or someone from a support group.

Whether you’re looking for mental health support in Barlby, Selby, or anywhere else, there is support available. Please ask for help.
