There are a lot of organisations, charities, and support groups that can help you.  We know that it’s not always easy to look for help. However, your GP is a good place to start. If your GP is already helping you, there’s no harm in looking for additional help.

You could get mental health support:

  • Online – Many online communities and groups offer mental health assessment or support. Here is an assessment that you can do online. You could find that talking to others online is easier than talking to people you know. You could meet like-minded people who have been through similar things and are happy to give you advice and support.

  • From friends and family – You might want to consider talking to your friends or a family member. Those who love you will want to know if you are struggling. It’s not always easy to talk about how you’re feeling, but when you do, you could feel like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders.
  • The NHS – The NHS has a very useful website that is full of information that could help you. The website also shows you where you can get the help and support you need. If you’re quite concerned about your mental health, please call 111 now.
  • A therapist or counsellor – Therapists and counsellors are there to help you. They can offer different types of therapies and work in conjunction with your doctor. You can ask your doctor to refer you to a therapist or counsellor if you think it will help.
  • Community mental health teams – teams such as these might be able to support you. Usually provided by crisis teams, services such as these are ideal for anyone who has severe or long-lasting mental health concerns.
