Spending time outside improves mental health by lowering blood pressure, fatigue, and anxiety. There’s a social hypothesis that says that being in a green environment is good for your mental health. Known as “Attention Restoration Theory,” the hypothesis states that even a few minutes spent outdoors will help you combat mental exhaustion.

We offer mental health support for Selby and the surrounding areas. Why not give us a call? Our phone line is open from 7 pm – 10 pm, 365 days of the year.

Physical exercise is recommended by the NHS, but green spaces are not. Green spaces are proving to be increasingly useful. Unfortunately, not everyone is aware of the significant impact that being outside will have.

The Mental Health Foundations Weekly Objectives

The Mental Health Foundation has two objectives for this week. To begin with, they want to encourage more people to enjoy nature in new ways. They want people to experience the benefits of the relationship to their mental health.

The second objective is to persuade decision-makers, such as politicians that access to nature is a mental health and social issue as well as being an environmental issue. 2021 will see a new Environment Bill being debated in Parliament, shaping the natural landscape for future generations.  It is, therefore, vital that politicians and other decision-makers know how essential having access to green spaces is.

Whether you are looking for mental health support in Brayton, or you’re simply looking for something new to do, try spending time in nature. Just 10 minutes a day can have an impact on your mental health.
