If you are ever tempted to spend a lot of time in bed, you should consider a rethink. Loneliness and depression are big risk factors for anyone who hibernates, as such. While you may get comfort from spending time in bed, doing so can leave you feeling unmotivated to do anything else. It’s this lack of motivation that could lead to loneliness and depression.

Did you know that the lack of social isolation that comes with hibernating can be as bad for your health as drinking too much or smoking 15 cigarettes a day?

So what can you do instead of hibernating? Here are some ideas:

  • Spend time with friends and family – When you see people you enjoy being around you’re less likely to feel lonely. You might also feel better for talking about how you’re feeling
  • Participate in activities that keep you out of the house – Go to the cinema, visit a friend’s house, participate in sporting activities, or enjoy a BBQ. Staying out of the house will mean you’re less likely to hibernate
  • Go for a walk with a friend – You don’t need to go for a long walk, simply go somewhere green such as Brayton, and spend time with someone who makes you smile

  • Spend time with people who aren’t too chatty – If talkative people make you feel uncomfortable, spend time with those who are a little quieter so you feel more at ease
