Knowing where you should start looking is not always easy. However, your doctor could be your first port of call. If your doctor is already helping you, there’s no reason why you should not look for more support.

Let’s imagine you’re looking for help with mental health in Escrick. You know your doctor can help but who else can offer you support? You can get support from:

The online community – There are many different online communities and groups that could potentially help you. Communities and groups such as these can be very useful if you’re unable to meet people face-to-face. In some respects, talking to people you don’t know can be easier than talking to someone you do know. Why not ask members of these online groups what helped them and who they spoke to?

Friends and family – You may want to consider talking to a friend or family member you can trust. Those who love you could be happy to talk with you about how you’re feeling. You might find that talking helps to lift a weight off your shoulders.

A therapist or counsellor – Therapists and counsellors all offer a range of therapies. Your doctor can refer you to a therapist, however, you might be asked to self-refer. Don’t worry, you’ll be told how to do this.

Community mental health services – Your local community mental health team could help you. They might offer assessment or support and offer you long-lasting care if your mental health is severe enough.

The NHS – Take a look at the NHS website. It’s full of very useful information that could prove to be very useful. If you’re concerned about your mental health you can call 111 now. If you don’t want to use the NHS website, you could search for “mental health help near me”. The search engine results page will show you some of the services that are available to you in your local area.
