Many people frequently drink alcohol. During the pandemic, sales of alcohol increased as pubs were closed and the feelings of isolation and loneliness crept in. In addition to this, it was still fairly easy to buy alcohol.

Society now has a better understanding of what causes people to drink excessively. Thankfully, there is a lot more support available these days, meaning more people can get the help they need.

We offer mental health support for Selby and the surrounding areas. Why not give us a call? Our phone line is open from 7 pm – 10 pm on weekdays and all day Saturday and Sunday.

Excessive drinking often coexists with anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions. Cutting down or quitting alcohol may not deal with the reason why people drink in the first place.

If you don’t think you drink excessively, but you would like to drink less, here are some methods you could use:

  • Get support from online groups – There is online support out there. Online groups can be very helpful. The moment you type “I’m not feeling good today.” someone will offer help.
  • Consider having a mocktail – Mocktails look at taste the same as cocktails, but they contain no alcohol whatsoever. Why not make a few or buy some and give them a try?
  • Ask your doctor for medication – There are some medications out there that can help you to drink less by making alcohol seem less desirable. Why not speak to your doctor about them?

If you’re struggling, please ask for help from your doctor, or in-person support groups. You do not have to struggle on your own. Why not consider going to a meeting or two? you have nothing to lose.

There is support for alcoholics in Brayton, Selby, or wherever you live. You can get the help and encouragement you need to drink less while dealing with the things that trouble you.
