What Exactly is Cortisol?

Cortisol is a hormone that is made in your adrenal glands, which are located on top of your kidneys. These glands know exactly when to make cortisol. Working with the pituitary gland as well as the hypothalamus, this collection is known as the HPA axis. 

What Cortisol Does 

Cortisol helps the:

  • Brain to form memories 
  • Body deal with danger or stress
  • Body to recognise when it’s time to go to sleep and wake up 

  • Body to control blood pressure and blood sugar 
  • Body to regulate the use of food
  • Body to get energy
