If you’re feeling lonely you could consider:

  • Creating a list of things you can do by yourself – What activities do you enjoy doing on your own? perhaps you like to watch a movie, do some painting, or a spot of crocheting. When you do the things you enjoy your feelings of loneliness can start to disappear.
  • Thinking of the people you could spend time with – Do you know anyone who always puts a positive slant on things? if you do, why not talk to them? they can help you to feel better.

  • Volunteering – Volunteering can involve meeting other people in Riccall, for example, and being part of a team. In addition to this, you can have new experiences while also feeling good about helping other people. You’ll also find that your feelings of loneliness will start to disappear.
  • Getting a pet – Cats and dogs can help to prevent loneliness because they require care and attention. Rescue pets can help you to feel good and you could find that you receive unconditional love from your pet.

  • Looking for support online – As loneliness is quite a widespread issue, you will find there’s a lot of loneliness-related forums and groups online. Please make sure you’re careful about who you meet online. Make sure you never give them your bank details or any other personal information.
  • Speaking to someone about how you feel – If you are also feeling down you could be depressed. Asking for help from your doctor, a counsellor, or a therapist could ensure you get the help and support you need, including support in your community.
