As you’re no doubt aware, it’s going to be Christmas in just a few days. The thought of Christmas could bring with it feelings of joy, but many people also experience stress and anxiety. This is because there is a lot of pressure on people to have the perfect Christmas. However, this time of year does not have to be perfect.

After such a challenging year, it’s important that you give yourself a break, that you realise that reaching for perfection can cause you to feel anxious, depressed, stressed, and not good enough. Let’s be kind to ourselves and others over the festive season.

We offer mental health support for Selby and the surrounding areas. Why not give us a call? Our phone line is open from 7 pm – 10 pm, 365 days of the year.

Call us on (01757) 642 399. If you call before our phone lines are open and we cannot answer you will be diverted to an NHS Helpline.

If you’re feeling stressed about Christmas, about food, presents, and anything else, try to let go a little. Studies have shown that perfectionism can negatively impact a person’s mental health.

Try not to put too much pressure on yourself. Realise that it’s ok not to aim for perfection. If you reduce the pressure, you’ll soon find that your day is a little (or a lot) easier.
