During the autumn months, many people find themselves feeling more stressed. This could be for a number of reasons. However, some experts say the causes could be due to the start of a new school, the festive season approaching, or even a failure to meet your summer goals.

We offer mental health support for Selby and the surrounding areas. Why not give us a call? Our phone line is open from 7 pm – 10 pm on weekdays and all day Saturday and Sunday.

The days are getting shorter, and many of us are starting to feel more stressed and anxious. We’re exposed to less sunlight and those warm summer temperatures have all but disappeared.

During these autumn months, you could start to experience:

  • Irritability
  • Low mood
  • Sleepiness and fatigue
  • Anxiety
  • A loss of interest in your usual activities

If you experience some or all of these symptoms, you could have seasonal affective disorder (SAD).

Here’s how you can combat SAD:

  • Exercise each day – This could help to improve your mood
  • Expose yourself to more light – Use a light box or go for a walk in the morning as more exposure to light can lift your mood
  • Ask for help if you’re struggling – Your doctor and other local mental health services are there to help you
